Translational research is here! Soft launch of Victorian Translational Research Institute (VicTRI)

VicTRI is a new generation research institution that will enable an efficient, effective, helpful and transparent end-to-end research processes. The Institute for Breathing and Sleep (IBAS) and its principle Affiliate Partner Austin Health are proud to announce this collaborative initiative. The initiative is the establishment of the Victorian Translational Research Institute (VicTRI).

VicTRI is a new generation research institution that will enable an efficient, effective, helpful and transparent end-to-end research processes. The Institute for Breathing and Sleep (IBAS) and its principle Affiliate Partner Austin Health are proud to announce this collaborative initiative. The initiative is the establishment of the Victorian Translational Research Institute (VicTRI).

The aim of VicTRI is creating a thriving research system to immediately impact and optimise health outcomes. VicTRI CEO, Jon Evans says VicTRI is here to ensure:

  • Research underpins the process of improving clinical care; its not an optional add on
  • Research gives our patients safer and better outcomes and is more cost-effective for our healthcare system
  • Underpins translation of innovative, best practice for specific patient cohorts driven by our patients and clinicians
  • Fast system wide delivery of real-time innovation in safer and better care to our patients for a more cost-effective healthcare system

VicTRI will hold true to key translational research principles, which are to:

Outcomes that have a direct and immediate impact to:

  • Improve Patient experience
  • Improve provider effectiveness
  • Improve patient/population health outcome
  • Drive better value for money
  • Improve equity, diversity and inclusion

Partnership

  • Co-designed with patients/providers
  • Partnership with/between clinician/researchers and the community of interest
  • Engage affiliated institutions (academic/health service/policy maker/funder)

Value

  • Create new knowledge to support practical clinical implementation/practice
  • Explore and address barriers to implementation and scale, spread and sustainability across the continuum of care
  • Value to decision/policy and informs healthcare investment

Austin Health and IBAS are the proud founding partners of VicTRI, which has established its operating model under the advice of the Austin-Mercy Health Precinct Research Collaborative Committee. Through close collaboration with Research and Education affiliated institutes, the collective research infrastructure can be optimised for outcome.
